$50,000 Grant to be Given to High School Teams Demonstrating Perseverance Through Sports

Bowling Green, KY (September 13, 2012) – Russell Brands, LLC, today announced the second annual “Fight Like Dylan Award,” which honors the courageous life of Dylan Rebeor, a terminally ill football player whose last wish was for new equipment for his teammates. In honor of Dylan’s character, courage and consideration of others, Russell will donate apparel and equipment via a $50,000 grant to one high school team that has demonstrated determination through sports.

Rebeor, a Columbia, Tenn., native, was just 16 when he passed away Dec. 3, 2010 after a long, courageous battle with colon cancer. Rebeor was a wide receiver on Columbia Central High School’s football team, but died just hours before his team won their first state championship in 58 years. Throughout his ordeal, Dylan’s commitment and dedication to his team never wavered. In fact, his final wish was for his teammates to receive new uniforms for their upcoming season.

“Dylan’s selflessness and courageous attitude in the face of an incomprehensible situation is truly inspiring,” said Gary Barfield, executive vice president, Russell Brands, LLC. “Russell learned of Dylan’s story and it moved us beyond words. We are honored that we can continue to celebrate Dylan’s life by awarding other deserving teams across the country for years to come.”

To be eligible for the “Fight Like Dylan Award,” teams must post a submission on the Russell Athletic® Facebook page explaining how their team overcame a challenge or triumphed in the face of adversity. Anyone is eligible to submit an entry on behalf of their favorite high school team by logging onto www.facebook.com/russellathletic. Entries will be accepted now through December 3rd. The contest’s official rules are also available on the site.

“Dylan’s life may have been cut short by devastating circumstances, but he lived an extraordinary life while he was here with us,” said Heather Rebeor, Dylan’s mother. “We’re in awe that Dylan’s memory and spirit will live on by the Russell Athletic ‘Fight Like Dylan Award.’ Dylan truly cared about others more than himself and now his legacy will be seen across football fields, soccer fields and basketball courts forever.”

Former Indianapolis Colts head coach and current NBC Sports Football analyst Tony Dungy and Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy will serve on the “Fight Like Dylan Award” selection committee, along with Dylan’s mother and Columbia Central High School head coach, Vance Belew. The 2nd annual winner of the “Fight Like Dylan Award” will be announced at the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl banquet on Jan. 3, 2013, which precedes the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl at The Home Depot Center Jan. 4, 2013, in Carson, CA.

Program to Coincide with Launch of 2012 College Football Season

Bowling Green, KY (September 6, 2012) – Russell Brands, LLC, today announced the extension of the Russell Athletic® brand’s Together We R™ advertising campaign, which originally debuted in 2011. A new television spot, “Declaration,” premiered in conjunction with the start of college football on CBS and ESPN. The brand will also continue to run its “Plural” television spot. This year’s Together We R™ campaign will also include an in-depth digital component, which asks fans to declare their commitment to their team. The digital piece will live on russellathletic.com and will be supported by digital ad buys on ESPN.com and CBSsports.com

“Declaration,” the 30-second television spot, was directed by brothers Mark and Matt Hoffman. The piece follows a young athlete speaking to the idea of team and the importance of playing together as one.

Russell Athletic to be Official Uniform of the Australian Baseball League

Russell Athletic to Provide League with Uniforms and Apparel

Bowling Green, KY (August 21, 2012) - Russell Athletic today announced it has signed a three-year contract with the Australian Baseball League (ABL) to be the official on-field uniform of the ABL. Australian Baseball League teams, which consist of elite national players from across Australia, will wear Russell Athletic-branded uniforms and Russell Athletic will become the preferred apparel supplier of the league beginning in August 2012.

The three-year contract is worth more than $2,000,000 in product, sponsorship and additional benefits.

Russell Athletic and Ohio University Enter Into 5 Year Partnership

BOWLING GREEN, KY (August 11, 2012) - Russell Brands, LLC, today announced the renewal of the Ohio University sponsorship agreement. Russell Athletic will continue to be the official team uniform and apparel outfitter of Ohio University Athletics for 5 additional years.

The sponsorship agreement notes that Russell Athletic will be the exclusive sponsor of all Ohio University teams as to the apparel, ball, accessory and other items associated with OU athletics. The new deal continues the relationship the two organizations already have, which dates back to 2006.

Marvel Super Heroes Invade College Campuses

MARVEL ENTERTAINMENT & RUSSELL ATHLETIC CREATE COLLEGIATE APPAREL PROGRAM

NEW YORK, NY (July 10, 2012) – Marvel Entertainment, LLC, a global character-based entertainment licensing company, announced today a licensing agreement with Russell Athletic for a Marvel Super Hero-Russell Athletic Collegiate apparel program. The program will reach up to 200 colleges across the country. Product will be available starting this summer just in time for the start of the new school year.

The Marvel-Russell Athletic Collegiate program will include t-shirts and hoodies featuring worldrenowned Marvel Super Heroes including Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Wolverine. The characters will appear in each college’s respective school colors along with their mascots and logos. Some of the nation’s largest universities will be participating in the program including UCLA, Michigan State, Baylor, Kansas State, Mississippi State, UNLV, Ohio State and University of Iowa.

Russell Athletic will distribute the co-branded apparel to college bookstores, arenas, sporting goods retailers and mid-tier stores beginning in August 2012.

The innovative co-branded partnership marks Marvel’s continued expansion into the sports category and helps extend the reach of its popular Super Heroes to new audiences and retail channels. Current Marvel co-branded sports apparel programs include the NBA and the Dallas Cowboys.

Russell Athletic New Title Sponsor For Orlando Bowl
Athletics apparel supplier assumes entitlement from Champs Sports

ORLANDO, FL (June 19, 2012) –Russell Athletic, a division of Russell Brands, LLC, and Florida Citrus Sports (FCSports) have entered into a partnership to present the Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando, Fla. through 2015. The 2012 Russell Athletic Bowl, most-recently known as the Champs Sports Bowl, will be played on December 28th at 5:30 p.m. (EST) at Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium and air live on ESPN. The game will once again pit top teams from the Atlantic Coast and Big East Conferences.

As part of the multi-year deal, Bowling Green, Ky.-based Russell Athletic will receive national exposure through television, radio and online media, and will be recognized in broadcast, outdoor and print advertising throughout Central Florida. Russell Athletic will also enjoy a presence on in-stadium signage and at the entire week’s schedule of Russell Athletic Bowl-related events, as well as a significant hospitality program for clients and customers.

This year’s Russell Athletic Bowl marks the 23rd year of the game, and its 12th in Orlando. The game has seen tremendous growth since its relocation to The City Beautiful in 2001, featuring attendance improvements in all but one season. Last year’s game between national powers Florida State and Notre Dame marked the first sellout and highest attendance in Orlando as 68,305 fans witnessed the Seminoles’ four-point comeback win. Another six million fans tuned in to ESPN to watch the contest.

Metropolitan Areas Ranked To Determine Whose Residents Living Most Active Lifestyle

Bowling Green, KY (May 31, 2012) - The West Coast reigns supreme as the most active region in the country, according to new results from the Dri-Power 360™ Healthiest Habitats study released today by Russell Brands, LLC. Fielded by Sperling's BestPlaces, the study analyzed major metro areas in the United States to determine whose residents are living the most active and healthiest lifestyles.

The Northern California Bay Area, encompassing San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland, topped the list as the most active area in the country. This Northern California region earned the number one spot with high scores for healthy eating, body mass index, regular exercise routines of its residents and number of hiking and running trails within city limits. Interestingly, the area only has an average number of gyms and fitness centers, meaning these physically fit West Coasters get a significant amount of their exercise while also enjoying the California outdoors.

While the Northern California Bay Area took the top spot, Seattle-Tacoma, WA, Portland-Beaverton, OR, San Diego-Carlsbad-San Marcos, CA and Boston round out the top 5 in the study. These major metropolises exemplify active living, with all ranking high as bicycle-friendly cities and boasting an abundance of hiking and running trails.

To determine which U.S. metropolises featured the buffest bods, most cardio-crazy residents, and health-conscious eaters, the study surveyed and measured a number of factors directly correlated with an active, healthy lifestyle. Study criteria included:

  • Gyms and athletic clubs (per capita)
  • Hiking and running trails (per capita)
  • Retail fitness establishments (per capita)
  • Percent of workers commuting by walking or bicycling
  • Bicycling infrastructure (miles of bikeways, other initiatives)
  • Percent of population getting daily exercise
  • Body mass index of population
  • Healthy eating – servings of fruits, vegetables

“While the Pacific Northwest demonstrated the most active lifestyle, one point the Healthiest Habitats study highlighted is that across all major metropolitan areas, there are ample means for residents to get out and get fit,” said Bert Sperling, president of Sperling's BestPlaces. “Be it participating in outdoor activities, belonging to health clubs or the presence of fitness retailers providing resources and equipment, cities across the country are helping their residents stay active and in shape.”

Findings at a Glance

  • Portland (ranked #2) is widely recognized as one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the United States, and the study showed just that with the largest percentage of its workforce commuting each day by bike
  • It may surprise some, but according to the Healthiest Habitats study, car-centric Los Angeles (ranked #6) has the highest concentration of hiking and running trails in and around the city
  • Minneapolis (ranked #10) cracked the top ten with the highest score in the study of residents getting regular exercise
  • The West wins with 71.8% of study respondents from this region getting exercise, compared with 64.1% of Northeasterners getting physically fit
  • San Diego (ranked #4) has the most retail fitness stores per capita, but like San Francisco the number of local gyms and fitness centers is slightly below average while its scores for commuting by bike or walking, and its bicycling infrastructure are well above average
